SQUEE! November 8, 2008

So I just need to squee because I had a softball game earlier and hit a two run homerun. Yeah, very happy-making. Really it is. I mean, I’m not the kind of girl who hits a homerun. I’m a starting pitcher, and first baseman, and an outfielder. I’m a quick runner, so a lot of my batting skills are focused on bunting and slapping. My actual hitting skills are considered okay. I can get a single or a double, but I don’t hit homeruns. Well, today I did. Me. The queen of bunting and slapping hit a homerun. *squee* I’m so darn happy. So happy that I posted a whole chapter on the “Snippets” page. That’s how happy I am right now. I can’t stop smiling. Well, I must be off to shower, eat, nanowrimo, and then go to the church festival!
Happily yours,
Leigha

I hardly know what to do with myself anymore. I’ve been so busy mostly preparing for the year end softball tournament that ended yesterday. Well, I’m proud to say my team got first place. I pitched all seven innings during the last game, found out I was clocked at 70 mph, sunburned myself (every part of my skin that was exposed is a bright flaming red and it hurts), and my arms and legs are killing me. My friend is not doing any better than me considering she caught all seven innings that I pitched. So was all that worth it for a championship? Well, last night when my team was celebrating our win I would’ve said yes. But now…the day after…I’m not so sure.
I have to go to the doctor Monday because my mom thinks I may have done somthing pretty bad to my arm. Great. I despise going to the doctor. Oh well. Wish me luck.

I’m telling you softball is really scary sometimes and at my game yesterday evening something really freaky did happen. It was really hot and I had run out of water. Normally, I would borrow some from one of my friends, but they were all running low so I didn’t want to take any of theirs. I went quite a while without water and started feeling sick to my stomach. I went out on the field to play first base. After a couple minutes I felt like I was rocking back and forth. I must not have been because somebody would’ve noticed. Then the orange dirt turned white with black dots. I still felt like I was rocking. I heard the umpire yell three outs so I started jogging back into the dugout with the rest of my teammates. By now everything was blurry. Everybody was a big red blur to me. I heard my friend say, “Jess? Jess? Why are you so pale? Are you sick? Answer me?” Then I passed out. Next thing I knew I was lying on the bench soaking wet. My coaches had gotten a big cooler of water from the other team to dump on me to wake me up. One of the moms there is a nurse and she said I had heat exaustion from the heat and not enough water. She said I just needed to rest and drink water and I would be fine. I asked my friend if I hit the floor when I fainted and she said that right as I did another girl turned around and caught me. So what have I learned? I need to bring more water next time.

So I had a softball game earlier. It was hot. Too hot. I pitched five out of nine innings and did pretty good. I batted five times and got base every time. The rest of the team played really, really well. To top it all off, we won the game. It sounds like everything was perfect. Well…there was this mom who was with the other team. I haven’t seen such a bad attitude as this lady had in a long time. At first she made fun of my pitching and the catcher who happens to be one of my best friends. We ignored her at first. Then she was saying in a very loud voice that the catcher was really bad and didn’t know what she was doing. I saw my friend get mad because she was just named one of the best catchers in the state. Then the lady decided that she should say something about me. She didn’t attack my pitching performance. She attacked my personality. She continually said that I was stuck up and full of myself. She doesn’t even know me. What right does she have to say things like that? If that wasn’t bad enough, she began yelling at the umpire and literally threw a temper tantrum when the game ended because my team won. It was embarrassing to watch. People say that sometimes the softball players can have really bad attitudes and I’ve seen some that did. However it seems that I see more parents with a bad attitude than other softball players. It’s really sad. The parents are the adults and they need to act like it. I’ve seen players, coaches, and parents be thrown out of the park because they said really bad things to and about the girls playing and the umpires. Seriously, if you’re going to sign your kid up to play ball, you could be supportive and not try to tear down those around you. Okay, rant over.
Anyways, I’m in the middle of re-reading A Break with Charity. It’s so good.I’m loving more than I did the first time I read it.
