You Belong With Me Video = Ew May 5, 2009

I really do not like Taylor Swift’s new music video for her song “You Belong With Me.” I think it’s quite annoying, really. So she’s some nerdish girl who likes this guy who’s going out with some cheerleader girl. Okay. We’ve all head this story before. But the video… Gah! She gets together with the guy after she removes her big glasses, lets down her hair, and puts on a prom dress. Was that necessary? No. There could have easily been a part where they get together while she’s looking like she did at the beginning of the video. Maybe I’m overracting slightly, but my first reaction to the video was “Ew.”

Anyhoo. I had a chemistry exam today. Eek. I have a history exam Thursday, and then an English one Friday and I’m done school. Hallelujah. Summer is a very imminent thing. No longer a wistful daydream… I can just imagine all the reading I’m going to be doing soon. :)

Um…yeah…except I suppose you could argue that he kind of expressed an interest in her before she dressed up, but still…

And I can’t believe that those are Taylor Swift’s real glasses.

*is in shock*

Eh, I just like it for the fun of it. If I wanted to dissect it and be serious about it I would probably agree with you. But I don’t want to :P

And Anilee, I love that those are her real glasses :D that’s so terribly nerdy. But I don’t know. Her last two videos have been interesting, to say the least. I wish they had done Forever and Always instead of You Belong with Me.

Yeah, that sort of ticked me off, too. I mean, he did sort of maybe start to like her before she came to the prom…but still. It did kind of have that overlying message of “if you change yourself maybe the boy will like you!”

I agree that he started to show interest in her before the prom, but it just annoyed me that it happened at the prom. I see no reason why they couldn’t get together while she was looking like she did for over half the video. Besides, her glasses were awesome… ;)

The cheerleader is her too. :P

Forever and Always is a cooler song, Danielle. Agreed.

I didn’t really have much issue with the video, but I do agree, it just didn’t really bother me. More like…whatever.

no because he wrote the I Love You message before she was at prom too and he told her he wished she was going to prom. He obviously liked her and like most other situations was too scared of being rejected by the girl he actually liked.
it’s a great music video

It was kinda weird. I mean…he never really said anything about the other girl when he was talking to the nerdy Taylor. He was always just really sort of nice to the nerdy version of Taylor…and then when he gets rid of the popular version of her and he goes over to the newly-renovated Taylor, it’s kind of like, Wow, you got rid of her that fast? Why didn’t you do that all along?

I liked it, personally.
although seriously. Pay someone else to play the hot girlfriend, don’t put the nerd in a wig and use her to play her own rival.

I don’t think Taylor was going for the whole, “You have to change for him to like you” vibe. I actually thought that at first, but then didn’t the guy also have a letter that said “I LOVE YOU.” with him, as well? I think Taylor put that to show that he did actually love her before the prom scene. It sort of implies that they both wrote it, but didn’t show each other. I guess it was just more romantic to have them reveal it during prom. :D

Loved it.

He liked her BEFORE the prom. You can tell he likes her from the beginning when shes dancing around (great scene).

And having her as the nerd and the cheerleader is good. It emphasises that its the part of her shes not. If it was someone else it just wouldn’t seem right.
