because I feel like making lists… February 26, 2009

I have decided to compose a list of things I think are lame. I’m not trying to be depressing or anything. I just feel like making a list of things that are lame. After this I think I want to make a list of things that scare me. That’ll be fun.

  1. Lack of understanding
  2. Expensive clothing
  3. Calluses
  4. Writer’s block
  5. Writer’s block that has lasted over two weeks
  6. Talking on the phone to people I hardly know
  7. Talking to people I hardly know in general
  8. Teenage romantic relationships (No offense to anyone who is a teenager and is in a romantic relationship. It’s just that all my experience with this stuff has come at me in this last year of my life, and I think it’s all pretty lame.)
  9. Being kicked out of your room for two weeks (Totally epic lameness.)
  10. Younger siblings who touch your books

Okay, that felt rather depressing. Here’s a list of things that scare me. This should be more humorous than anything.

1.      Troy Bolton (Do you really need an explanation?)

2.      Rap music (Headache-inducing.)

3.      Stupid drivers (*dark menacing glare*)

4.      Over the top fangirls (Spare me.)

5.      Edward Cullen (*sings* Sparkly Sta-alker)

6.      Eragon (He does no wrong. I’d feel so inferior to his cardboard characterness. Hah! Yeah right.)

7.      Santa Claus (Again, do you need an explanation?)

8.      The Easter bunny (Don’t try to tell me that a big pink bunny isn’t scary.)

9.      Lizards (They’re like miniature dinosaurs!)

10.  Cold showers (I feel ill just thinking about it.)

   So, um, yeah.

   Right.

   Okay.

Oh, there was something else I wanted to bring up. I’m already working on my next post, and it’s going to be password protected. Okay, I think that’s it. As always, email me for the password if you don’t already know it.

search terms! February 24, 2009

I haven’t been having a very good time of lately. I’ve been pretty bad actually. So in an attempt to cheer up I went looking at my blog’s search terms. Here are some of my favorites. Search terms in quotes and snarky commentary in italics.

“does mulan have a magic carpet” Well, duh. Was I the only one who saw that scene where Mulan and Shang were on a magic carpet singing “A Whole New World”?
“charming flauvic” Well, I’m sure he makes a darling tree.

“breaking dawn read along” Read along with what? With me? With Josh Groban? With Eddie-Baby himself?

“domination by my sister” Heh. If my younger sister knew how to use Google, she would probably search that.

“meaning of ruffled tulip” Dude! We have been over this before! Sigh. Some people just never learn. I thought Edward’s ruffled skirt was a perfectly plausible explanation that didn’t require anymore thought.

“what is bella’s love shield” Still trying to figure that one out…

“jaime fletcher cheats on jacky” Am I a horrible person for cracking up when I saw this? (Die, Jacky, die!)

“edward jokes” There are so many. But here’s a good one. I say, “Edward Cullen!” You say, “Sparkly vampire!” And then we both laugh.

“generalizations of teeage boys” Oh, you’re asking me? They all smell. Just kidding. Totally kidding. I know plenty that smell just fine.

“brisingr bad” Lol.

“daine and numair never meet” Don’t I wish.

“paragraph writing on my relatives” Do your relatives know that you’re writing about them?

“numair the early years” Haha. Wait. What? You’re not kidding? You mean that there are people out there who actually what to read that book?

“teenages boys who flexes their muscles” Um, okay. I only know boys who do it as a joke. P.S. I almost corrected the grammar and spelling in this one, but I decided to leave it be.

“a funny thing people dream about” Am I supposed to pick one? Are you even human? Just ask Maribeth. She has, like, the most awesome dreams ever.

“why own two copies of twilight” One to look good and another for snark purposes. Muahaha.

“songs for being smitten” Um, okay. Well, you can’t go wrong with the one from Princess Diaries Two. “You’ve been smitten, while playing badminton, where’s my kitten?”

“eugenides wedding night attolia cry” Dude, okay. One of my favorite lines from The King of Attolia. “Would you like to hear more romance of the evening? I threw an inkpot at his head.” Attolia rocks.

“numair” Eh? Just Googling Numair? Well, you have fun with that.

“she cut off his hand” Yes, she did. And then they got married. Yay for non-traditional happily ever afters!

“susan caspian” Get this through your head! Caspian never snogged Susan. Never flirted with her. He married a nameless chick. Sheesh.
“breaking dawn gross” Are we talking about content or writing or both?

“gemma and kartik the daffodil” WIN! THAT IS SO WIN!

“can I get a love shield” The fact that you want one scares me…

“the sweet far thing spoilers” Three words: Kartik the Daffodil.

(That title is my song. I even have a tune for it.)
I realized today that I have a lot of holds at the library. I wonder if there is a hold limit… Just checked how many I have. Twenty. Heh. I had no idea I had requested so many. Well, I fully intend to read all of them. I really do. And I probably will because all of them are books I want to read.

So last night I watched a totally amazing movie called Fireproof. No, it wasn’t the best made movie you’ll ever watch. The acting isn’t Oscar-worthy. But it was an amazing movie. Totally had me crying. (Speaking of the Oscars… I am so not watching them tonight. Never watched them. Never will. Besides, I heard that “Singin’ in the Rain” is on tonight. Methinks I will watch that instead.)

I’m reading How to Be Popular by Meg Cabot. Sorry, but all her books sound same to me. Not that I’ve read that many. I’ll finish this book even though I think it’s pretty lame, but I don’t expect to pick up one of her books in the near future. There are other things that are worth reading. But it’s sad that I don’t really like her books. I’ve been in the mood for some actually good chicklit. Not having much luck. I’m also (re)reading The Bad Beginning. It’s…interesting. I haven’t really formed an opinion. But I can’t deny that Lemony Snicket isn’t funny. ‘Cause he really is.

Great and Dramatic Undertaking… I’ll have to shorten that to GaDU. Hehe. I just thought I would bring that up since you might hear more about GaDU in the future. (If you didn’t know, GaDU is splitting one of my novels into three.)

I was at a lock-in Friday not, and it was a lot of fun. Seriously. A boy in my youth group and I had two of the most epic conversations ever. The first one took place during capture the flag while we were guarding the flag.

Me: It’s SO cold.
Him: Seriously.
Me: *touches nose* I can’t feel my nose.
Him: *touches nose* I can’t feel mine either.
Me: Well, yours is still there.
Him: So’s yours.
*both crack up laughing*

Look, it was two in the morning when we said that. Of course we thought it was hysterical. And then we had this conversation while playing Sardines. We were looking near the woods for the person in hiding. (It was about four in the morning at this point.)

Him: I swear that a wild animal is going to jump out at me at any second.
Me: You’re the guy so you’re getting between me and the wild animal.
Him: Sorry, but no.
Me: You’d so fail at the knight-in-shining-armor business.
Him: Proud of it.

And on that note I shall go torture myself by reading more of How to Be Popular. (Just shoot me and throw me in a grave with daffodils growing over it. Kidding. Totally kidding. Maybe…)

a question and announcement February 19, 2009

Yes, I really do have a question and announcement. The question was prompted by Danielle. This questions is for those of you who read my last post. As my sister jumped over me, she yelled “DOGPILE!” Now, Danielle did not know what a dog pile was. So I’m collecting a survey here. Do you know what a dogpile is?

And to my announcement. I am going to be disappearing under great amounts of planning and outlining because I am about to begin two Great and Dramatic Undertakings. Actually, only one. I’m putting one for a while. There is no way I want to work on two Great and Dramatic Undertakings. Well, one undertaking is remaining a secret to all. Undertaking number two… Well, let’s just say that despite all my work. Collision as a novel goes flop. But Collision as three novels…. Like I said, Great and Dramatic Undertaking.

If I complain about my library ever again, just tell me to shut up. Actually, don’t. Because I will complain about my library again and how slow it can be. But right now I love my library. For today I put holds on several books that I have been dying to read. See, I take my “to-read” shelf on GoodReads very seriously. If a book is on there, I fully intend to read it. Well, when I have nothing better to do, I search all of the books on my “to-read” shelf on the online library catalogue. I very rarely have luck. But today I had the most luck in the world. This is the luck I had…

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Princess Ben by Catherine Gilbert Murdock

Chalice by Robin McKinley (Double super big yay!)

Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott

How to Build a House by Dana Reinhardt

Ivy by Julie Hearn

Yay, yay, and another yay! I get to read all of these book soonish. The library has them on order. But I am the first one to get all of these books. I almost feel evil. Muahahaha. Yes. Today life is good. Except for the fact that I had to go to softball practice…. That wasn’t so good.

And….

One more thing. I am considering doing a vlog. But I have no idea what it should be about. Any suggestions?

An Interview with the Lovely Q February 9, 2009

Me: Have you ever found a four leaf clover?

Q: Yes!  I’ve actually found two in my life.  I lost the first one, but I pressed the second one and saved it–until one of the leaves broke off, because that kind of defeats the purpose of having a four-leaf clover.

Me: You have a choice here. Do you A) take that acceptance letter you received from Hogwarts and start attending there ASAP? Or  do you B) Take that acceptance letter you received from Gallagher Academy and start attending there ASAP?

Q: Ooh, this one is really hard.  Wish I could pick both.  I think, though, that I would choose Hogwarts, because I’m too much of a coward to be a spy and I couldn’t speak twelve languages if my life depended on it.  Besides that, I have found so many ways to use “Accio!” in my life…

Me: The government has decided (for reasons unbeknownst to you, the people, and even the politicians themselves) that everybody must pick a song to listen to everyday for the rest of their lives. What song do you pick?

Q: That is an excellent question.  Probably something by Enya, because she calms me down.  Which one…  How Can I Keep From Singing? or Book of Days.

Me: If you had a tagline, what would it be?

Q: A tagline. “And you thought I was just a letter…”

Me: Have you ever worn red lipstick?

Q: Oh, yes.  It was fun.  I was so tempted to just go kiss some guy on the cheek to see what he did.

Me: If you had to sleep for a hundred years like Sleeping Beauty, how would you have liked to be woken up? A kiss? A snap of the fingers? Something else?

Q: Definitely not a kiss, unless…  Well, you don’t need to know that.  A snap of the fingers would be very nice, as long as it wasn’t someone who was going to kill me after they woke me up.  And I hope I had pleasant dreams for those hundred years.

Me: While we’re talking about sleeping for a hundred years… Say there’s this Prince (Sleeping Handsome?) who has been sleeping for a hundred years. Would you A) Wake him with a kiss. Or B) Take advantage of the situation by drawing on his face and then waking him up with a kiss?

Q: B, absolutely.  Except I would probably just draw on his face then giggle and tiptoe out of the room and leave him to someone prettier who actually wants the hassle of being a princess.

Me: I say, “The British are coming! The British are coming!” and you say…?

Q: Yes!  Teach me your accent!

Me: Would you dye your hair purple for a day or so if given the chance?

Q: For a day?  Yes.  As long as the dye came out and my hair was exactly the same the next day.  I like my hair the way it is, and as I’ve never dyed it before I don’t know how well it works with dye.

Me: What’s your most favoritest of favoritest words ever?

Q: I can’t pick favorites of anything. I apologize. It always depends on my mood.

Next I shall interview…. Gee. I really don’t know actually… I’ll have to think about it.

P.S. Thanks for all the birthday wishes. My birthday has been pretty much awesome so far. :D

Such is life February 6, 2009

You can turn around and run now if you want. Because I am about to talk about writing and what it is that it does to me. It makes me so happy, and then five minutes later it makes me mad. For some reason, I enjoy it. I suppose I lack normalcy, but you’ll never hear me complain about that. I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like to be normal. What it would be like not to be me. Me with my insane amounts of reading and (occasionally) insane amounts of writing. I can’t really say that I’ve been writing lately. Well, I could say that, but that would be lying. I’m lacking for words again. It’s the worst kind of writer’s block when you know exactly what’s going to happen and exactly what to do, yet you lack for words. That’s me. Lacking for words again. It’s really not fair. I mean, I was having so much fun with me new novel. I pretty much adore the main characters. Most especially Shia. He’s such a darling. Probably my favorite. It’s interesting though because he is Jace’s polar opposite. Where Jace is rash and wild, Shia is quiet and reserved. Don’t get me wrong, he has a very snarky sense of humor. He’s just not as open about it as Jace is.

Anyway….

Tonight and tomorrow shall be pretty much amazing. My friend is spending the night tonight for my birthday, and then she’s spending all of tomorrow with me. So I shall not be around the internet world again till Sunday-ish. We shall see. Mayhap late Saturday evening. Depends on how tired I am.

I’m going to be seventeen on Monday. Ack. I’ve gotten four presents thus far. Two from my relative. And two more from Maribeth and Danielle. ( They so rock, those two. ;) ) Thank you, guys!!!

Oh, and speaking of those gifts I got from my relative… I attempted to read “City of Bones.” Oh my gosh, I wanted to cry. I can’t read that book. I just can’t. It’s too weird for me. I kept thinking, “Jace wouldn’t say that. He wouldn’t do that.” Such is life.

my relatives obviously don’t know me February 2, 2009

My 17th birthday is in exactly one week. Yay for me. Sure. Whatever. The only thing I am looking foward to is getting books as presents.

Well.

My first gift arrived today. As a matter of fact, it arrived about half and hour ago. It was a gift from some relatives that I haven’t seen since I was like ten. Apparently, they were told that I love to read. The brief note that was included in the package said, “These are my daughter’s two favorite books.”

Can you see where this is going?

Probably.

If you know me anyway.

Lo and behold. There was this:

And then there was this:

Wow. Just wow.

I mean. I’m not trying to sound ungrateful. I just find this altogether hilarious. My relative was trying to be nice, and for that I am thankful. It was very nice of her to send me books as a gift even though I haven’t seen her in seven years. I just love the irony here. I got a book I loathe and a book I utterly refuse to read.

Sigh.

Now I own two copies of Twilight.

And now I own a book that I will not read. Ever. No matter what. I don’t care how good anyone thinks it is. Cassandra Clare stole Jace’s name. Poor dear still hasn’t recoverd. I still haven’t recovered. And I never will.

So.

What should I do? About City of Bones? Should I read it because someone was nice and sent it to me? What if my relative asks what I thought of the gifts she sent? I’ll have to say, “I hate Twilight, and I will not read the other.” My goodness. I can’t do that. That would so rude. (But very true.) I really don’t think I can bring myself to read City of Bones though.

So.

Do you think I should at least attempt to read it?

P.S. Sorry the Twilight picture is so big. I was too lazy to find anything smaller.
