Dramatics Concerning Books and Darcy’s Eyes August 14, 2008

So I just finished Undercover by Beth Kephart, and I loved it. Loved it. I think I’m going to go reread it right away. I might somehow be able to like it even more. (Or I’ll dislike it the second time around and wonder why I liked it in the first place) That actually happened to me a year or so ago. I decided to reread Annie, Between the States. I enjoyed reading it for a second time, but I didn’t like it half as much as the first time. The author’s writing style bothered me in places, and the ending was rather disappointing. (I must admit to laughing when Annie got together with that one guy. First, I thought it was rather tacky. Second, I saw it coming from literally page one, so I just went “Meh.”) Oh, dear. I’m starting to talk in parenthesis again. And I’m rambling again. I wanted to talk about Undercover but then I got to parenthesis. I swear this is the effect LRRH has on me. Very recently we went from character’s names to world domination in one page.

Oh, and I’d like to add to my Annie, Between the States comment. I just reread it for a third time not too long ago, and I think I liked it more than the second time. I think. I’m not sure how I feel about this book. Let’s just say that I like some parts, and then I don’t like other parts. Yeah.

   Anyway…

I just watched the modern version of Pride and Prejudice. I enjoyed it more than I expected to. It wasn’t completely like the book, but that didn’t really bother me. I mean, in this version Mr. Collins ends up with Mary. Which, I think, is as it should be.

I’ve wanted to watch this ever since Taiger suggested it on LRRH. (Thanks, Taiger! And you’re right. Darcy does have lovely eyes. My sister and I didn’t swoon or anything, so don’t look so suspicious. ;) )

I have decided that within the next few days I am going to be brave and dare to read Dragon Flight and Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow. I can’t believe I’m being so dramatic about a couple of books. But, hey, if I didn’t have a sense of drama, I wouldn’t bother writing.

And speaking of writing, I’m taking another break from writing my novel after I finish the chapter I’m working on. This break will probably be a lot longer than my last one. My life got, um, rather dramatic/tumultuous as of late. Plus I’m starting school this Monday, and I’d like be as de-stressed as possible when I start. And writing combined with my life and impending junior year and learning to drive just isn’t going to work out, so I have absolutely no idea when I’ll get back to it. Probably when I settle into the school year and life returns to a semblance of normal.

Oh, I love the pink version! It makes me laugh–and I always thought Mr. Collins should end up with Mary.

2. anilee - August 15, 2008

I always thought Mr. Collins *giggle* should end up with Mary, too.

I wasn’t wild about Annie, Between the States when I reread it, either. Maybe I should read it for a third time…

3. Leanna - August 15, 2008

I still need to read Jessica Day George’s books! If I go to the Rapuzel’s Revenge release, I might get to meet her.

I really liked Undercover. Beth’s writing is so poetic. Her other book, House of Dance is pretty good too. :)

4. Danielle - August 15, 2008

I totally agree about Mr. Collins! I’ve always though that…

Dude, Leanna- envious! I want to go to the RR release! I’m hoping Shannon will be coming back to my city so that I can meet her (again, Jess! Evil smiley  )

And since when have the words normal and school been used in the same sentence? Haha. I get that though. When school begins it’s like there’s just more structure in my schedule. I never have time to free write during the school year… it’s rather sad :(

5. Danielle - August 15, 2008

My evil smiley did not work. I shall try again.

6. anilee - August 15, 2008

Leigha, I might have to boycott your blog if you allow that twitchedly possessed smiley to appear. I’m serious.

7. Leigha - August 15, 2008

Yes, it’s definitely funny, Q. Bingly was as dorky as ever. ;)

Exactly. They’re perfect for each other. Charlotte could’ve married…uh…Colonel Fitzwilliam. ;)

*glares at Leanna* Jealousy. Ooooh, I really want House of Dance. *looks it up at the library*

Don’t make me start ignoring you, Danielle. I can and will spam your comments. ;) Some structure would be rather nice in my life right now…. School just might be good for me….

Really, Anilee? I can make it easy for you and set my blog to private, and not invite you to read it. ;)

8. anilee - August 15, 2008

Bingley is a dork. A huge dork. The Dork! ;)

Charlotte and Mr. Collins never seemed right, exactly. It seems more like a plot device, you know. But whatever.

I like structure. Sort of. I require it, but I don’t like it.

Fine. Go ahead. Then you won’t get to read “Arianna” until it’s released and you either go to the library or decide to buy it. ;)

9. Leigha - August 15, 2008

The Frog! :D

A good plot device though. I mean, Charlotte was 27 and knew that she would never be proposed to again. Though, I wouldn’t have accepted. I would’ve stayed an old maid, but you can see why Charlotte accepted. That is so dumb, btw, that a 27 year old woman was considered an old maid.

Jeez, I was just kidding, but if you’re going to be that way, you won’t get to read “Collision” until it’s released. ;)

10. anilee - August 15, 2008

The Liar!

It was a good plot device, though I wouldn’t have accepted either.

Fine. Be that way.

11. Danielle - August 15, 2008

I love how you guys are so sure of your books being released ;)

I like how people don’t like the evil smiley… tis very funny :D

It is dumb, isn’t it? But if you think about the life span and everything else back then it does make sense.

I suppose I’m a believer in you can still have structure even when your scheduled is free…

The Bingley in the newest version of P&P is just scary. I rather like him in the A&E version but the red headed guy is just scary… seriously.

12. Leigha - August 15, 2008

Uuuh… Mr. Darcy! :D
And yes I will be that way. ;)

I don’t have a problem with the laughing smiley. But soon I shall be posting a set of rules on the usage of it here on my site. :D
Oh, dude, the red head guy is scary. *shudders*

13. Danielle - August 15, 2008

Oh man. Rules scare me. Maybe that’s why I was housed as a Gryfinndor!

14. Danielle - August 15, 2008

Opps… meant to say Gryffindor.

15. anilee - August 15, 2008

Mr. Darcy is scary.

Fine.

I’m most likely Ravenclaw. :D

16. Maribeth - August 15, 2008

Heh. Heh. I’m Slytherin. Jk.

17. Leigha - August 16, 2008

Oh, they won’t be difficult rules. And they probably won’t be strictly enforced. It’s just going to be a fun post. :D

I’m a Ravenclaw/Slytherin. ;)

Mr. Darcy isn’t scary.

18. anilee's ghost - August 16, 2008

Anilee probably would wish that people would forget about the laughing smiley. She would probably feel like such a post would be mocking her peculiar habits.

Anilee would also probably roll her eyes at this point. But alas, she cannot, for dead people cannot roll their eyes.

19. anilee's ghost - August 16, 2008

Anilee is even more dead, if that’s possible, because she is almost certain that Leigha has done the unthinkable (no matter that Ani Isilee did it first) and marked her comments as spam or needing to be moderated.

20. Leigha - August 16, 2008

I did not mark your comments as spam or as needing to be moderated. Since you changed from anilee to anilee’s ghost, it held your comments for moderation. If you had been sensible and commented under Anilee, it wouldn’t have.

But don’t think I won’t ever mark your comments as spam or hold them for moderation…. ;)

21. anilee's ghost - August 16, 2008

Well, I’m a nice ghost; I’m not going to pretend to be the living Anilee.

But the odd thing is the IP address would be the same (I stole Anilee’s computer since she can’t use it), and I haven’t yet changed the email address.

22. Leigha - August 16, 2008

*waves to the nice ghost*

It is odd, but I swear I had nothing to do with it.

I really should make the name Leigha’s Ghost in case I so happen to die at some point in the future. ;)

23. anilee - August 16, 2008

You should. Though it was the same account; I just changed the name. So that’s the really weird thing; you’d think WordPress would have recognized that it was the same account. Whatever.

You say that…but I’m not sure I believe you. ;)

24. Leigha - August 16, 2008

Hehe, Leigha did.

Leigha is being dead (no pun intended) serious that she had nothing to do with it.

25. anilee - August 16, 2008

Okay…*is confused*

Fine. Whatever. *suspicious*

26. Leigha's Ghost - August 16, 2008

Leigha is now Leigha’s Ghost.

She wants you to stop being suspicious because she’s speaking the truth!

27. anilee - August 16, 2008

So you died? Sweet. Does this mean that I get Geric to myself now? ;)

Fine.

28. Leigha - August 16, 2008

No. Nice try, Anilee. ;)

29. anilee - August 16, 2008
30. Merissa - August 16, 2008

Because just because Leigha died doesn’t mean she’s going to give up her collection of book heroes, right? ;)

31. anilee - August 16, 2008

If I died, I’d give away my collection of fictional men, only they’d just be so crushed by my death that you’d rather they just stay in my closet. ;)

Besides, we’re sharing Geric.

32. Leigha - August 16, 2008

My collection of fictional men would be so crushed by my death that they’d never come out of my closet. ;)

Finn’s cash register! :D

33. anilee - August 16, 2008

Finn loves his cash register. It keeps him very busy. It annoys Neal, who has some very sarcastic things to say. Finn, of course, says nothing back. ;)

34. Danielle - August 16, 2008

lol. You guys crack me up. The funny thing is I actually understand all of these jokes… :D

35. Leigha - August 16, 2008

I can imagine. So do Finn and Neal get along at all? I should hope so. I mean, they are stuck in that closet with each other. How does Dexter take it? ;)

You understand them, Danielle, because you’ve officially gone crazy. ;)

36. anilee - August 16, 2008

Well, Neal wishes Finn weren’t so accepting, you know? He’s a bit too quiet for Neal’s taste, but then, Finn never tells Neal to shut up, which Neal appreciates. He just doesn’t think his wittiness is appreciated. And Dexter takes it fine, like he seems to take pretty much everything.

37. Leigha - August 16, 2008

Ah, I see. Well, it seems like things are going okay in your closet. :D

38. anilee - August 16, 2008

Yes. It’s a happy place. :D

39. Em - August 16, 2008

I have a sudden urge to watch something with Colin Firth in it. :)

Oh and House of Dance by Beth Kephart is really good, too. A poetic book that perfectly captures the tone of summer.
