Bookish Stuff, Inspiration, and My Fear of Numair August 10, 2008

I’ve been feeling even more bookish than usual these last few days. I seriously forget what it’s like to be normal bookish. (Though I’m not sure I ever was normal, let alone normal bookish.)

There are several books that I am all but dying to read. These books have seriously been occupying my mind for quite some time. And they are…

Bayern Number Four by Shannon Hale

When she said on her latest blog post that it should be available fall of 2009, I seriously shrieked. (I just realized that fall of ’09 will be the beginning of my senior year. Oi.) Anyway, I really am dying to read this. It’s Shannon. My favorite author in the world. I adore her and her books, and I wish I could say that I despise anyone lucky enough to meet her. Unfortunately, I know several lovely people who have met her. People who are very good friends of mine, therefore I cannot hate them.

Rapunzel’s Revenge by Shannon Hale

So close yet so far. (Translation: I’m broke.)

Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George

Okay, so the only book I’ve read by Jessica Day George is Dragon Slippers, which I really liked. I own Dragon Flight and Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow. I just haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. It’s really just because I tried to read Dragon Flight before, but I couldn’t get into it. (Maybe I just wasn’t feeling dragon-y that day.) I would love to read Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow, but I loved East by Edith Pattou so much that I’m afraid to read another book based on the same fairy tale. (I mean, if there was another novel out there based on The Goose Girl, I’d be terrified to read it.) So when/if I get Princess of the Midnight Ball, I’ll say that I’m just dying to read it, but as soon as I try to read it, I’ll freeze up and think of other retellings of The Twelve Dancing Princesses that I love. (Wildwood Dancing and one of Robin McKinley’s short stories.)

The next Attolia book by Megan Whalen Turner

Words cannot describe how badly I want this book. I haven’t the slightest idea when it will come out. For all I know it might be another four years yet. I go to sleep just dreaming about this book, thinking about how if I’m broke when it comes out I will beg my mother to buy it for me. I think I have incentive for the author to get this book out soon. She should know that there are fans like me who are coming up with crazy predictions since they has nothing better to do. I shall not list my predictions because they may very well scare you, but I’ll just give you a title prediction. The Quintuplets of Attolia. Just imagine five kids that are a mix of Eugenides and Attolia. Even one would frightening. (In a good way of course.)

House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones

I loved Howl’s Moving Castle, and I really liked Castle in the Air. So I’m just crazy about the idea of reading this. Yes, it’s out. Yes, I’m broke. If you’ve read it, don’t rub it in. You can tell me if it’s good but refrain from bragging. My poor nerves can only take so much. ;)

Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott

I really, really want this book. I loved Bloom and Perfect You, so I’m very excited for this one. I blame Elizabeth Scott for making me understand the wonders of contemporary teen fiction. If it weren’t for my reading Bloom, then I wouldn’t have picked up anymore Sarah Dessen books, Carpe Diem (which I’m really liking), or other books like that.

Anyway, this subject is beginning to stress me out, so I really should stop. Why is it stressing me? Well, these are books that I want, and I can’t read them. It’s enough to kill a bookish person like me at times.

So, did you know that Tamora Pierce wants to write a book from Numair’s point of view? Ew, ew, ew and ew again. I really don’t like him, and he scares me. Though his powers are pretty darn awesome…and he’s smart. Okay, so I like him a little bit. I guess the only reason I dislike him is because he ends up with Daine. Ick. Sorry, sixteen years is a lot. Yes, I know there are twenty years between Jane Eyre and Rochester, but that’s different. I don’t know why, but it just is. And there you have it.

Oh, dear. I just realized that I have a little more than a week left of freedom. Junior year approaches. Ack! I feel old. Seriously.

Last night I had major writing inspiration. (Not for the story I’m working on now though. That’s had a steady stream of inspiration lately.) I had new inspiration. A new idea for a novel. And do you want to know the best part? There’s going to be no romance in it! Yes! Writing romance sucks. It really does. It’s so hard. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to write, and I’ll be so relieved when I’m done with my current story. I’ll say goodbye to my lovelorn characters, wish them well, hope they don’t turn the world upside down, and skip off into the sunset with a Josh Groban song playing in the background. (Yes, I know that’s tacky, but if you’ve ever tried to write a romance you’d know what I mean.)

There are so many books I also want (need)… My own insane booksishness is screaming at me, threatening to strangle

I think this is the most scared I’ve been of starting school again…!

2. Danielle - August 10, 2008

I was reading this and ( mostly anyways :P ) agreeing with you the whole time! I love reading moldy posts :) And many of those books I really want to read as well. I also want to write… what happened to summer? I don’t know. I just don’t know. What makes me most sad about the ending of this summer is that it’s kind of like the end of free time. Grades do not make themselves, and I have so many extra leadership gigs, combined with music, YG, etc… It’s stressful to think about having all of that pressure on me again.

Why I am venting this on you I do not know! This sounds more like a blog entry :P

Anyways, though my feelings are different, I totally get this post.

And I totally agree with you Rebecca Joy!

By the way, I am so mad at B&N right now! Shannon said that RR was out right? But they’re not releasing it until the 19th so I am frustrated. Good news is that since I pre-ordered it I’ll get it on that day but I still don’t want to have to wait…. Ah. Now I’m day dreaming about FB and how very badly I want to read it. Wouldn’t it be amazing if she sent ARC’s to all of the LRRH’s? I might be desperate enough to e-mail asking for one to be honest :) :) :)

3. Edge - August 10, 2008

Oh, I hate knowing there is a (large) handful of books of books I’m dying to get but I hate to buy hardback. (Although hardbacks are SO pretty…) I’m glad you enjoy the shorts – I never planned on posting them this often, but if that’s what the readers demand… :-)

And a shared ARGH to the Spanish subjunctive. It’s such an irritating tense.

I have to wait for another year for Forest Born? :-(

4. Q - August 10, 2008

I’ve met her! :D

5. Leigha - August 11, 2008

I totally agree with your comment, Rebecca.

Feel free to vent, Danielle. That would be so wonderful if she sent ARCs to all the LRRH-ers. Heh. I still remember when Anilee won an ARC of B1000. As much as I like Anilee, I was so jealous. :D
The same thing happened to me when I was at Borders. I went crazy looking for RR, so I finally asked someone. They were all, “We won’t be getting it until the nineteenth.” Gah! How frustrating.

Hardbacks are so pretty, Edge. If I wasn’t a poor teenage girl, I would buy them. :)
Stupid subjunctive. *mutters something about how annoying it is*
Yes, a whole year. :(

*glares at Q* Why are you so nice? I’m supposed to dislike you since you’ve met her. You could at least do me a favor by being mean so I won’t feel bad about disliking you. ;)

6. anilee - August 11, 2008

So should I be doubly mean because I’ve met Shannon and won an ARC of B1000? ;)

7. Q - August 11, 2008

Oh, I’m not very nice. Not really. Sometimes I am, but that’s usually because I want people to like me. And then I’m nice. Okay, so I am kind of nice. But you’re poking holes in my callous shell.

And oh, Anilee, that was cruel. Way to twist the knife.

8. Rebecca Joy - August 11, 2008

I’ve never met Shannon. I think if I did, I’d probably pass out or say something really dumb and be utterly embarrassed for the rest of my life. Hey, who’s that girl with the paper bag over her head? Oh, yeah, it’s yours truly. ;)

But I really do *speak* better when I write what I mean to say – I’m not much of a great…talker (?) I guess. If that makes any sense.

9. anilee - August 11, 2008

I’m not very nice either, Q, so it wasn’t hard. ;)

Rebecca, yep. That about sums up meeting Shannon. :D

10. Leigha - August 11, 2008

Anilee…. ;)

*continues poking holes in Q’s callous shell* ;)

I’m the same way Rebecca. I’m not a good talker.

11. Danielle - August 11, 2008

Wow. I’ve met Shannon twice but this was before A) I met any of you and B) I became a freaky fan. I did meet Miss Erin though! That was cool! But again, before I “knew” her :)

12. Q - August 11, 2008

I’m a decent talker around people I know, but not to people I don’t. Or on the phone. I’m terrible on a phone.

13. Maribeth - August 11, 2008

BAYERN 4! Ahhhh. :D

Lol, to the last part. But yeah, I totally agree. :)
I’m excited for your completely new novel idea. That’s just great.
Currently all my ideas form around romance. :( ALL of them. And I have like five or six more.

14. Leigha - August 11, 2008

Just keep talking about it why don’t you, Danielle. ;)

I’m horrible on the phone too, Q.

My thoughts exactly, Maribeth.
There’s nothing wrong with writing romance. If you like it, go for it. I love reading books with romance, but I really don’t like writing my own all the time. Sometimes it’s fun, but it’s hard.

15. Danielle - August 11, 2008

All right I will ;)

She said that she liked my glasses and…. :)

16. Leigha - August 11, 2008

*headtable*

;)

17. Maribeth - August 11, 2008

Gah. I’m so jealous. I want to meet Shannon.

18. Ink Mage - August 11, 2008

I, too, was wary of reading Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow after East, but it really surprised me. I still enjoyed SaM,IaS and didn’t feel like it was copying East at all. So I suggest that you push yourself forward and read it. :-)
Hm…another Attolia book. I wonder if I’ll like it (I liked the first one a lot but the second and third I found boring. Don’t hurt me ;) ).

19. animeacress - August 12, 2008

oh but i do right romance. i guess it takes all kinds.
haha. i read the title for the post and burst out laughing. i heard about that. shes gonna right a sequence of numair’s early years. i like him but i would have liked him more if he were at least 14 years younger.

20. animeacress - August 12, 2008

sorry to double post but…..OY! my spelling is terrible!!! *fume*

21. Q - August 12, 2008

And WAIT I missed the new Attolia book thing. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?

I read RR today. And it was fantabulous. Neener neener neener.

22. cuileann - August 12, 2008

A new Attolia book? Guess that means I really should get on reading the second one…;)

Agreed on Numair. Icky man.

23. anilee - August 12, 2008

cuileann! You haven’t read QoA yet! Shame on you!

And Q, who knows when it’s coming out. It can’t come quickly enough, though.

24. Leigha - August 12, 2008

You thought the second two were boring, Ink Mage? Wow, I thought they were more interesting than the first. :)

I like romance too, Anime. I don’t like writing it so much. ;)

I have no idea when it’s coming out. Believe me, I’ve searched the internet, and I’ve found nada information.
You’ve read it! And you’re bragging! Don’t make me ban you, Q. ;)

Shame, Cuil! Shame! I can’t even speak to you anymore. ;)

25. Q - August 12, 2008

Oh no! Don’t ban me! I like this blog!

But it was OH so good. And so beautiful. Nathan Hale is hilarious.

26. Leigha - August 13, 2008

Well, since you like my blog…. ;)

Besides, I don’t even know how to ban someone. I know how to make sure their comments don’t appear unless I approve them, but other than that….

27. anilee - August 13, 2008

I don’t think you can actually ban someone.

And you can do worse than that; you can make someone’s comments be picked up as spam. *Muahahaha* ;)

28. Leigha - August 13, 2008

Ooooh, spam. *signature evil cackling laugh* ;)

29. Q - August 13, 2008

If you had your own .com website you probably could find a way to block an IP address, but…

30. Leigha - August 13, 2008

I could just get a .com so I can ban you…. ;) Just Kidding.

31. Q - August 13, 2008

That would be really funny.

“I’m going to get my own website JUST SO I CAN BLOCK YOU!”

32. Leigha - August 13, 2008

Yes. Only I would add a “Muahahahaha” to the end. ;)

But what can I do to you without getting my own domain? Well, I could….

A. Mark all your comments as spam

B. Remove you from my links

C. Quit reading your blog

*evil cackling laughter*

;)

33. Q - August 14, 2008

And my responses to that would be:

A. Use a different email address

B. Cry

C. Sob

:)
